Caring for your aligners

Clear aligners are an incredibly convenient treatment, but there are still tips and tricks to make it go even more smoothly. Here’s how to keep everything on track and looking its best.

Caring for your aligners

Wear your aligners as directed

For optimal results, aim to wear your aligners for the full time recommended by your orthodontist (typically 20-22 hours a day).

Clean and rinse your aligners regularly

Whenever you remove your aligners, rinse them with lukewarm water and gently clean them using a soft toothbrush and clear, unscented liquid soap.

Avoid hot water and harsh cleaners

Hot water can warp the aligners and abrasive products (like toothpaste or mouthwash with colour) may scratch or discolour the trays.

Remove aligners before eating or drinking anything but water

Eating or drinking while the aligners are in place can trap food and drink against your teeth, cause staining or damage the aligner material.

Brush and floss your teeth before reinserting

Before putting your aligners back in after meals, clean your teeth thoroughly. This prevents trapped debris, which could lead to buildup or decay.

Store your aligners safely

When you’re not wearing them, always keep your aligners in their protective case. Leaving them out or wrapped in a napkin increases the risk of damage, loss or contamination.

Keep your aligners clear and comfortable

Maintain their clarity and fit by following these tips:

  • Avoid coloured drinks like coffee, tea, or soft drinks while aligners are in.
  • Inspect your aligners regularly for signs of wear or damage.
  • If you ever lose your aligners or notice the fit changing, contact us right away.
